To begin, Amazon uses barcode labels on every item in order to streamline their process. These barcodes help identify every product, (where it is in its distribution center, if a product is real) and also helps identify you as the seller of the product.

What labels do I need for Amazon FBA?

There are two main types of barcodes Amazon uses:

• Manufacturer’s barcode/UPC barcode
• Amazon FNSKU barcode

We will explain these barcode acronyms below:

What is UPC?

UPC stands for Universal Product Code is a 12-digital barcode that is found on the back of most products. It is the most common form of barcode in North America. If you are adding your product to Amazon you’ll need a UPC to create a product listing page. Visit GS1 to buy a UPC barcode. You only need one barcode for a product. For example, if you have 100 of the same product you only need one UPC number.

What is FNSKU?

FNSKU (Fulfilment Network SKU) is basically Amazon’s version of UPC they provide to you when you list your product on Amazon Central. An FNSKU is important because once your product is delivered and scanned, that’s how you will get paid. The second important point about FNSKU is that it identifies both the product and the seller. Unlike a UPC that only identifies the product, if you were to send a product with just a UPC it will be stored together with your competitors’ product of lower quality. Therefore, FNSKU not only identifies the product but also matches the product to you the seller.

The requirements of an FNSKU Amazon label:

• 10-Digits Long
• Both Alphanumeric
• White background with black print
• Barcode is 1-2 inches tall and 2-3 inches wide
• 1/4” white space on sides and 1/8” white space on top and bottom
• Includes FNSKU, Product name and Condition
• FBA Labels are placed on outer wrapping

What is ASIN?

ASIN stands for Amazon Single Item Number, it is a unique product identification number Amazon uses to differentiate from their millions of other products in their product catalog. ASIN is often confused with FNSKU, ASIN purpose is mainly an internal number for Amazon’s benefit.
